Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? You’re not alone. Here are the most common questions we get asked.
About the Guild
What is the St. Joseph Business Guild?
Catholic LinkedIn? A Catholic chamber of commerce? BNI for Catholics?
The St. Joseph Business Guild (the Guild for short) is a Catholic network of business owners, professionals, job seekers, freelancers, students, and individuals helping each other build an economy that seeks first the Kingdom of God. Through networking, resources, and formation, we help one another earn more, make connections, grow businesses, start businesses, find jobs, and find support—without compromising our faith.
Who is the Guild for?
If you’re Catholic and trying to build a career, grow a business, start a business, find meaningful work, or give back—there’s a place for you in the Guild. We welcome business owners, employees, freelancers, entrepreneurs, students, job seekers, retirees, and nonprofit leaders.
Where is the Guild located?
We’re based in the Twin Cities and focused on building a strong, local Catholic economy in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Many of our events and members are local, though some support and resources can be accessed remotely.
Is my profession/industry well represented in the Guild?
We have a growing and diverse membership that includes business owners, freelancers, professionals, and nonprofit leaders across many industries. That said, some fields are more heavily represented than others.
We believe every Catholic in the workplace deserves support. If that resonates with you, there’s a place for you here.
Is the Guild only for Catholics?
Yes. The St. Joseph Business Guild exists specifically to support Catholic professionals, business owners, and families. Our mission is to strengthen the Church by helping her members succeed—economically, professionally, and spiritually.
This isn’t about being exclusive. It’s about being intentional. As Catholics, we believe we have a special responsibility to care for one another in concrete ways.
That said, we’re always open to conversation. If you’re a fellow Christian who believes in what we’re doing, we’d love to talk. Whether it’s finding ways to collaborate, sharing our model, or helping you start something similar for your own community, we’re happy to help where we can.
Membership Details
Why do you charge dues?
Because offering real value costs real money.
Your annual dues directly support the networking events, member support, job board, St. Joseph’s List, coworking space, and everything we do to grow a thriving Catholic economy in the Archdiocese.
Why all the different member types? Why not just business owners?
It’s a great question, and it gets to the heart of what makes the Guild different—so please forgive the longer answer:
While business owners are a vital part of the Guild, our mission is bigger than helping individual businesses succeed. We’re here to build a Catholic economy—a living, breathing network where Catholics support one another in practical, concrete ways. And that only works if everyone’s at the table.
For example: Business owners are looking for reliable employees who share their values. At the same time, Catholic professionals are looking for good jobs where they don’t have to check their faith at the door. When both are members of the Guild, they find each other easily. It’s a win-win—and it happens because they’re part of the same community.
Or take a freelancer who’s just getting started. They need clients, referrals, and encouragement. At the same time, a nonprofit director in the Guild is looking for someone to redesign a brochure or edit a video on a tight budget. Because they’re both in the Guild, a trusted connection happens that benefits them both.
That kind of synergy only works when you bring everyone together. If we only focused on business owners, we’d be limiting the very ecosystem we’re trying to create. The Church is a body with many parts—and so is the Catholic economy.
This is all kind of vague. What do I actually get as a member?
While it depends on your member type, all members get networking, resources, and formation.
Some of the items under those general benefits include
- Access to exclusive networking events
- Use of The Quarry coworking space
- Members-only job board
- Listing on St. Joseph’s List (for business owners & entrepreneurs)
- Access to our private online community
- Opportunities to receive or offer mentorship
- Support from a Catholic network
But how the Guild helps you depends on who you are.
I'm really busy—what if I can't make it to any meetings?
The Guild is built to help you succeed, not fill your calendar. Even if you never attend a single event, your membership still works for you:
- Business owners and freelancers get a free listing on St. Joseph’s List, where thousands of local Catholics go to find businesses and services they can trust. It brings in real customers—no networking required.
You can post or browse job openings our members-only job board. - You can access our private online community, where you can ask questions, get advice, or connect with other Catholic members—on your own time.
Of course, the more you engage, the more you’ll get out of it. But even if you’re too busy to show up, your membership is still working behind the scenes to connect you with opportunities, support, and community. You don’t have to do more. You just have to do it with us.
What if I don't know anyone?
The Guild was built to be the platform that helps Catholics find one another—across industries, parishes, backgrounds, and stages of life. Whether you’re hoping to advance your career, grow your business, start one from scratch, or find a new job, we’ll introduce you to people you wouldn’t otherwise meet: employers, mentors, collaborators, clients, employees, and friends in the faith.
You don’t need to already know anyone in the Guild to belong here. You just have to be willing to take that first step. We’ll help with the rest.
What if I don't need the Guild right now?
If you’re just looking to take, the Guild may not be for you.
The Guild isn’t just a safety net you fall back on when you’re “in need.” It’s a foundation you help build—so that when the time comes, it’s ready to support you and others.
If you wait until you “need” the Guild to join, it might not be there in the way you wish it were. But by joining now, even if you don’t need anything immediately, you’re helping create the very Catholic economy whose benefits you’ll want to rely on later: jobs, referrals, mentorship, and tangible support.
If we only act when things go wrong, we’ll always be unprepared. You build the castle in peacetime and Noah built the ark before the flood.
I'm not sure what I need right now. Can the Guild still help me?
Many members join the Guild during times of transition—between jobs, considering a new venture, looking for community, or just feeling stuck. You don’t need to have it all figured out to belong here.
The Guild is a place to explore possibilities, meet people, ask questions, and take small steps forward. You don’t need a polished elevator pitch or a 5-year plan. You just need to be Catholic and curious about what’s next. We’re here to walk with you as you figure it out.
