ABOUT
What is this about?
A number of parties within the community have expressed an interest in having an in-person market or markets to buy, sell, and support Catholic businesses and the Church.
Why a market?
Catholics need to take care of our own.
Beyond the blessings of commerce and material gain, when Catholics come together, in-person, to support each other, great things happen.
A market is a special forum where young entrepreneurs, up-and-coming and nascent ventures, and legacy operations alike can find value. What’s more, it can be a space for community.
When and where will markets take place?
The first Catholic Artisan Market will take place October 3rd at the old St. Mark’s School Courtyard (1983 Dayton Avenue, St. Paul, MN).
Whether there will a single perpetual market, and/or a number of markets is being determined!
The hope would be having a market. or markets, in central, active locations and at convenient times for the general public.
What sort of vendors would be eligible for markets?
Those for whom vending in a farmers market and/or artists/makers market would be fitting. Vendors must first be members of the St. Joseph Business Guild.
Present interest parties include woodworkers, woodburners, small-scale farmers, painters, publishers, musicians, jewelry-makers, and more.
There’s probably no need for zucchini and zucchini bread, though. There always seems to be a superabundance of those.
What benefits are there for vendors?
Dream big! And dream together!
Catholics do too much alone: we need community and shared resources. The object of these markets is not just to put coins in coffers, but to build up a treasure trove of shared vendor resources (tables, tents, hardware, publicity, displays, et al) to enjoy an economy of scale and a high trust society!
